Busan Foreign Workers Support Center operates mobile service center
Foreign workers receive counseling on March 23 at the plaza in front of Renecite.
For foreign migrant workers in Busan, there will be easier access to medical services and counseling about working and residing in Busan as well as assistance with other inconveniences while living in the city.
The Busan Foreign Workers Support Center has begun operating a mobile support center for migrant workers to listen to their worries and difficulties. This office first began its work on March 23 at Renecite Shopping Mall in Gwaebeop-dong, Sasang-gu District.
It acts as a channel through which foreign migrant workers can voice their complaints and will assist them once a month at Renecite and BEXCO in Haeundae. Consultations are available in 10 languages including English, Chinese, Nepalese, Indonesian, Uzbek, Myanmar, Tagalog (Philippines), Urdu (Pakistan) and Korean.
Ten staff members from the support center will provide counseling on medical and legal issues and other concerns related to living and working in Korea. Among the counseling staff, four are naturalized Korean citizens. Currently there are around 50,000 foreign migrant workers living in Busan, but only 16,000 are registered.
The number of support cases submitted by foreigners from October to December totaled 1,105 cases. From January to the end of February, the number totaled 820.
