Busan to host All Asia Cruise Convention 2014

Asia's largest cruise convention will be held in Busan in 2014.  On March 13 at Cruise Shipping Miami 2013 in the United States, Busan City, the Busan Port Authority (BPA), the Korea Tourism Organization and the Busan Tourism Organization signed the MOU with Seatrade to host the All Asia Cruise Convention (AACC) 2014 in Busan.

AACC, the largest cruise convention in Asia, is sponsored by British-based Seatrade Global, an organization prominent in hosting international shipbuilding and marine conventions as well as publishing global maritime and logistics journals.  AACC has been held biennially since its first convention in Shanghai, China in 2008.

The 3^rd AACC was held in Shanghai in 2012 with around 2,000 participants from the cruise industry, including cruise companies, vessel equipment suppliers, ports of call, and travel agencies. The convention, consisting of conferences and exhibitions with participants’ active information exchange and marketing activities, was a great success.

Since the opening of the International Cruise Terminal in Yeongdo-gu District in April 2007, Busan City has strived to boost the cruise industry in cooperation with related organizations, including the BPA and the Korea Tourism Organization.

The cruise industry in Busan has been growing fast: 42 ships visited the port in 2011, 126 in 2012, and 160 in 2013. Busan City has been involved in multilateral efforts to attract international cruise ship companies.  As one result of the city's efforts, it has been chosen to host AACC 2014.

AACC 2014 will coincide with the completion of the new international passenger terminal and cruise pier in the North Port Redevelopment Project area.    

A city official said, “Through hosting the AACC 2014, Busan City expects to strengthen its position in Northeast Asia, where new cruise markets are rapidly growing, and to raise Busan Port’s profile in the global cruise market. Eventually we expect to be the center of cruise tourism in Northeast Asia.”
