Foreign students who have already graduated from a local college or will graduate soon and are planning to find a job in Busan can simply change their visa status.
There
is no need for them to return to their home country.
Originally,
in order to change the visa status, non-Koreans had to leave Korea, return
home, get a new visa issued and re-enter the country. But if certain
requirements are met after a screening process, a new visa can be issued
without leaving.
If
a foreign student plans to work for a Korean company or is seeking a job, it is
possible to change their visa status from a student visa (D-2) to a special
occupation visa (E-7) or a job-seeking visa (D-10).
The
D-10 visa can be given out to these candidates: a foreign student or a recent
graduate with D-2 visa whose GPA is over 3.0 and a foreigner who either seeks a
job or wants to start a business.
To
get a D-10 visa, a foreign student should submit the application form, their
passport, alien registration card, fee, transcript and job-seeking plans. A
job-seeker or aspiring entrepreneur does not need to submit a transcript.
Qualified
candidates for the E-7 visa include a foreigner with a D-10 or D-2 visa who
found employment in a field relevant to his or her major and has signed an
official employment contract with a firm.
