Friedrich Alexander to offer master’s, PhD programs from March

The Friedrich Alexander University Research Center for Life Science Engineering will initially offer master’s degree programs in chemical and bio-engineering, with plans to recruit 50 students annually.

Following the introductory program, FAU will offer a corresponding PhD program, officials said.

The city recently announced that the German university’s local campus, in the works since 2006, will open at the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone, also known as the BJFEZ.

The Friedrich Alexander Univer-sity of Erlangen-Nuremberg is one of the world’s top universities for life science engineering.

The college received approval on Nov. 17 from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to set up a Busan campus after getting the green light from the Free Economic Zone Organization.

FAU’s local campus, which will have lecture rooms at the Busan Techno Park within the BJFEZ, is scheduled to open in March of next year.

The school will accommodate 100 students, with plans to initially offer two-year master’s degree courses in engineering and later expand its offerings to include doctoral degree programs. The courses will consist of a research component and joint experiments with industrial companies. Students will receive the exact same degrees offered by FAU’s main German campus.

Now that the local branch has been approved, the city and the BJFEZ Authority will focus on recruiting excellent students from Korea and across Asia as well.

Founded in 1743, Friedrich Alexander University is a national college located in Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany. With five colleges and 26,600 students, it is one of the best universities in the chemistry and biology fields.
