Busan City government has selected the current operator of the International School of Busan to be the operator of the new Busan International Foreign School which is scheduled to open in August, 2010 at Nae-ri, Gijang-eup, Gijang-gun.
The International School of Busan, currently located at Jung-2-dong, Haeundae-gu, and operated under the name of Tore Jacobsen, a former honorary consulate of Norway and founder of the International School of Busan, submitted its bid as operator of the Busan International Foreign School in April, 2009 and was selected as the preferred bidder. It has now signed on to the operating agreement, which contains the basic plan to formally close the International School of Busan, effectively renaming it as the Busan International Foreign School.
When the Busan International Foreign School is completed next April, then, the current school facilities will transfer to the new school, and then the new school will officially open next August after obtaining official approval for the establishment of a new school from Busan Metropolitan Office of Education.
Busan International Foreign School, with its classrooms and many subsidiary facilities, including a gym, a soccer field, and a tennis court, will offer education from pre-school through high school.
An official of the International Relations Division said, “We expect that opening the Busan International Foreign School will provide a much-improved educational environment for the children of many of our foreign residents and a better quality of life. As a result, this will also be a big help in attracting more foreign investment to Busan.”
