A walking festival will take place around Busan City from November 13 to 15, 2009 with about 200,000 participants. The event will comprise 5 different kinds of walks, including moonlight, coastal, old downtown, and forest walks.
Busan City declared Busan a ‘walkable city’ last June, and has created greenways and green spaces in several places around Busan. Now, people are able to pass through new areas of the city on foot by using the beautiful Busan greenways.
On the first day of the festival, November 13, a Moonlight Walk will begin at 6 p.m., from Munhyeong Financial Complex to Gwangalli Beach via Mt. Hwangnyeong. (The Moonlight Walk is cancelled due to rain.) A greenway workshop and a presentation will be held earlier in the day.
One walk entitled “Walking the 600-year-old port city of Busan” will follow the walking festival ceremony at the Central Pier at 10 a.m. on November 14. It will start at the Central Pier and finish at Songdo Beach, going via the 40 Steps, Daecheong-no, the paths around Yongdusan Park, PIFF Square, Gukje Market, Yeongdo Bridge, Daepyeong-dong, and the Nam-hang (South Port) Bridge.
On the same day, a forest walk will be held for young people, starting at 10 a.m. from Sajik Baseball Stadium to the Seongjigok Reservoir via the Forest Experience Center.
On the final day of the event, November 15, a 40-kilometer coastal walk from Haeundae Aquarium to Naru Park via Igidae and other districts, organized by each of 16 autonomous districts, will take place. A guided walk will also be offered. The completion ceremony of the walking festival will be held at 4 p .m. at Naru Park.
Busan City has created 85 greenways on coastal roads and along the riverside to make Busan a more walkable city, with a total investment this year of 43.7 billion won.
