The university road (called Daehakro in Korean) in front of Pukyong National University (PKNU) has been transformed into a much more beautiful street by eliminating the concrete wall that bordered the PKNU campus in Dayeong-dong, Nam-gu.

Nam-gu District eliminated the 661-meter long fences between PKNU and the former vehicle registration office, and then established 60 facilities including a wooden deck, benches and an outdoor stage there. 5,637 trees have also been planted.

In particular, a public access road has been built to the fish farm in PKNU for easy observation of marine life and it also provides easy access to the pine tree hill. A 152-meter long pathway from the TBS traffic broadcasting station to the entrance of the new university dormitory has also been built.

Nam-gu District plans to create a more beautiful night view by installing 161 night lights along the Daehakro to make the street even more pedestrian-friendly.

A District official said “Local residents are satisfied with the widened sidewalk and the creation of new green spaces by eliminating the walls” and he added, “The university campus can now be appreciated as a new place of culture and relaxation by local residents.”

The mayor of Nam-gu, Lee Jong-cheol, “Previously, on the Daehakro at Nam-gu, bicycle-only lanes were built and cluttered signboards of stores were beautified. New green spaces have now been created on the side of road, and the Busan Art Hall will be completed the end of next year. I believe that all these efforts will make the Daehakro a more attractive, educational and cultural place for local residents, students and visitors alike.”
