The southern part of the Nakdong River, which is famous for its migratory bird habitat, succeeded in joining the East Asian-Australian Flyway Partnership.

The EAAF is in charge of managing the flyway networks - which essentially are the air routes that migratory birds use - among its member countries.

The southern Nakdong River joined the duck and wild goose network, meaning that it has been acknowledged internationally as an important spot for the flyways of those birds.

The flyway territory stretches from Siberia and northern China to Japan and Australia.

Only habitats that are home to endangered species or more than 50,000 birds of a single species that has been designated for preservation can join the EAAF.

The southern portion of the Nakdong River also joined the Wetland Link International in September of last year.

Busan City and Nakdong Estuary Eco Center will now increase efforts to preserve the habitat by monitoring the flyway network and exchanging information with other countries, among other moves.
