Busan (U-city in an existing city):
Integration of U-Disaster Prevention Infrastructure To become A Safe City on the basis of Cutting- Edge IT Technology
Busan city is selected as one of the U-city pilot areas for 2009 by MLTM since it tries to carry out a project to integrate U-Disaster Prevention Infrastructure, which will prevent disaster damages and promptly respond when disasters occur.
Under the project, the city will push forward three plans.
1. It will establish an “integrated U-disaster prevention infrastructure” to help share information in real time with fire stations, etc. and respond without delay in a disastrous situation.
2. It will create a “real-time monitoring and remote management system of drain pumps” to avoid inundation when an unexpected localized heavy rain falls.
3. It will provide a “U-PC service” to give real-time news to people in affected areas and prevent damages caused by disasters.
The project is expected to enable Busan city to control disasters with the integrated U-disaster prevention service and to minimize damages.
Incheon (U-city in a new city):
Designation of IFEZ as a U-City trial city and Support Project
Incheon Free Economic Zone is designated as one of the U-city pilot areas for 2009 by MLTM since it drew up a plan to develop and apply a consumer-oriented U-service based on the comprehensive IFEZ U-City plan.
Under the project, the IFEZ has two plans.
1. It will provide an “Intelligent Context Recognition and Crime Prevention Service” in cooperation with U-city operation centers, which will help police patrol cars monitor CCTV even on the move.
2. It will make a “Public Parking-lot Information Service”. The service will provide various information, such as destination, present conditions of near parking lots and available parking lots to mobile phones and VMS, which will significantly reduce traffic jam and Carbon Dioxide gas emission.
Incheon city expects that operation cost will be reduced since it will utilize its independent network, the so-called Wi-Fi Mech, in implementing the above plans.
Mapo-gu in Seoul (U-City in a new town):
Creation of U-city in the Ahyun New Town and Near Areas
Seoul Mapo-gu is selected as one of the U-city pilot areas for 2009 by MLTM to increase competitiveness of relatively underdeveloped areas of Ahyun New Town and near areas.
Under the project, Mapo-gu will push forward three plans.
1. It will establish “Ahyun New Town U-Community Center”, where people can meet and communicate with one another in U-Silver Lounge, U-Healthcare and Internet Plaza, and receive U-Silver contents.
2. It will build “New Park Avenue”, which links the streets of the new town, Gongdeok-dong, Yeomni-dong and Dohwa-dong with bike paths on the riverside of the Han River.
