Busan International Machinery Fair to be held May 20 to 24

Like high-tech machines, Busan has an event you won"t want to miss.

The Busan International Machi-nery Fair or BUTECH 2009, in which 500 companies from 25 countries plan to take part, will be held from May 20 to 24 at Haeundae BEXCO.

This fair has been hosted by Busan once every two years since 2003, and succeeded in qualifying for certificate from the Union des Foirs Internatio-nals or UFI last June, recognizing its international status and competitiveness.

Over 800 buyers from overseas are expected to visit the BUTECH 2009  this year. This fair is a chance for companies to show off their new technologies, learn new skills from each other and market their products.

Major exhibition topics will include international automated plant machines, international machinery technology, the international environmental industry, international welding equipment and tools, and the international parts and components industry.

Busan expects this fair to boost trade by $250 million and provide economic benefits worth 90 billion won ($67 million).

An official of the Busan city said, "The BUTECH 2009  has grown into an international fair that Korea is famous for. We hope this will be a stepping stone to developing Busan City, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang as the main belt of the machinery industry in the world." (051-888-3114)

The Korea Railwa ys and Logistics Fair 2009, a chance to see all the latest railway cars from around the world, is scheduled from June 3 to 6 at Haeun-dae BEXCO.

The Busan, Korail and the Korea Rail Network Authority host the fair, which received its certification from the Union des Foirs Internationals in 2007.

At this year's Korea Railways and Logistics Fair 130 companies from 16 countries will set up 630 booths, making for the largest event ever.

The Korean company Hyundai Rotem will reveal its next-generation high-speed train for the first time, while Woojin Industrial System Co., Ltd., will show off their rubber-wheeled light electric railway system, which will be used to deliver empty trains to Busan subway line No. 3. And of course, magnificent concept rail cars of the kind normally seen at world motor shows will also be on hand. Germany and Russia will operate country booths during the fair. (051-888-2923)
