Prince Haakon Magnus of Norway will come here in early May, leading a delegation of business leaders and trade officials to explore business opportunities, the Foreign Ministry said Wednesday (April 18).
The crown prince will visit Seoul from May 7 through 12 at the invitation of Prime Minister Han Duck Soo. He will pay a courtesy call on President Roh Moo-hyun and hold talks with the prime minister, the ministry said in a press release.
"The crown prince’s visit this time will mark the first official trip to Korea by a member of Norway’s royal family," the ministry said.
"The government expects the visit to help further increase economic cooperation between the two countries, as a large delegation of Norway’s economic leaders will accompany the prince," it added.
Prince Haakon is scheduled to participate in Korea-Norway economic seminars in Seoul and Busan, Korea’s second-largest city, according to the ministry.
He will be accompanied by his country’s trade minister, vice minister of foreign affairs and about 60 other government officials and economic delegates, the ministry said.
Korea and Norway established diplomatic ties in 1959.
Bilateral trade between the two reached over $1.7 billion in 2006.
