Geumnyeonsan Youth Training Institute has built the biggest artificial rock climbing walls in Busan to develop youth leadership in sports, to promote sport climbing to the general public and to satisfy citizens’ demands for leisure.
The completion ceremony of Hae o-reum (Rising Sun) Artificial Rock Climbing Walls will be held at Geumnyeonsan Youth Training Institute on October 26, 2009 at
About 200 guests, including Bae Young-kil, Busan’s Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs, members of the National Assembly, city council members, officials from the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education and the Busan Alpine Federation, young people of Busan, members of a rock climbing group and local residents will participate in the ceremony ? anyone else interested in sport climbing is also very welcome at the ceremony. After the ceremony, there will be a rock climbing demonstration. On the day of the ceremony, a shuttle bus will run from Geumnyeonsan Subway Station (Exit 6) at 10 a.m. for the convenience of those using public transportation, and parking lots at Geumnyeonsan Youth Training Institute will also be available.
Construction of the artificial rock climbing walls started in May, 2009 and was completed this October with a total investment of 650 million won. The walls provide four climbing sides ? one side for youngsters, 10 meters wide and 2 to 3 meters high, and the other three sides of varying degrees of difficulty measuring a total of 17 meters in width and with a height of 17 meters. Finally, there is also an international standard climbing wall for speed climbing which is 5 meters wide and 17 meters high. The artificial rock climbing facility has been named “Hae o-reum (Rising Sun)” to reflect the energetic spirit of Busan’s youth, rising like the sun.
Geumnyeonsan Youth Training Institute is equipped with various facilities including accommodation, a dining hall, and auditorium room, so it is capable of holding national and international sport climbing competitions, and it also offers visitors magnificent views of
The climbing walls will be open to the public from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and will be free of charge until the end of December, 2010 in order to promote regular use of the facility. From 2011, the admission fee will be just 1,000 won for adults during weekdays and 2,000 won during weekends, while it will still be free for children and teenagers.
