- The 10th Busan
Fireworks Festival (Oct. 24-25)
Resplendent
fireworks will light Busan’s autumn night skies once again. Busan Fireworks
Festival, marking its 10th anniversary this year, will show off its
magnificence under the theme “Love for Busan.” For those who have been waiting
a year, here are some guidelines on how to enjoy the festival to the fullest.
- K-pop Hallyu
(Korean Wave) concert at Busan Citizens Park
On
Oct. 24, the opening evening of the festival, a K-pop concert featuring Korea’s
top-notch Hallyu stars will take place in the grass square at Busan Citizens
Park. The concert at Korea’s best urban park is characterized as a “picnic-type
music festival” where families, couples and coworkers can sit around and enjoy
the music together.
The
event, under the theme “The Brilliant Concert Season 3,” will last two hours
after it kicks off at 7 p.m.
The
stage will be on fire, honored by Korea’s top K-pop stars like Sistar’s Hyorin,
Ali and Insooni, whose performances have not been easy to come across in such
an intimate setting.
- Diverse street
parades will boost the fever
The
festival will kick off with a Fireworks Music Concert and street performances
at 2 p.m. at Gwangalli Beach and around Gwangan Bridge.
In
the roads around Gwangalli Beach till 6 p.m., street performances will showcase
exciting dance, samul nori (traditional percussion music) and percussion
presentations. The Fireworks Music Concert will follow from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Also
to be featured is a special show where the upcoming fireworks are presented in
advance using Gwangan Bridge’s media light technology.
- Multi Fireworks
Show under the theme “Love for Busan”
The
highlight of the festival, Busan Multi Fireworks Show, will last for one hour
from 8 p.m. Oct. 25 at Gwangalli Beach. This year’s theme for the fireworks is
“Love for Busan.” Since the festival is marking its 10th anniversary, the
visual feast will be taken up a notch. The festival will incorporate a breathtaking
multimedia show using Gwangan Bridge’s state-of-the-art LED lighting and
1.2-kilometer length to stand out among other global fireworks festivals such
as Australia’s Harbor Bridge Fireworks Festival.
Tips- Three vantage
points
1. Beacon Mound on
Mount Hwangnyeong
First
off, Beacon Mound on Mount Hwangnyeong overlooks a sweeping view of Gwangalli
Beach and Gwangan Bridge.
From
the mound, one can take in the whole of Busan, including Haeundae-gu
(district), Seomyeon-gu and Dongnae-gu, not to mention Gwangalli Beach’s night
view.
Throngs
of people also flock to Beacon Mound to take pictures of the fireworks
festival.
2. Jangsan (Mount
Jang)
From
this location, one can revel in the resplendent curves of Gwangan Bridge.
One
sweeping view encompasses the night views of Gwangan Bridge, Marine City and
Centum City. It is a perfect venue to enjoy the fireworks festival in the city.
However, cars are not allowed, so walking to the location is the only option.
3. Millak Waterfront
Park
Another
perfect location is Millak Waterfront Park, at the far eastern side of
Gwangalli Beach. It is a little tucked away from the main area of the beach, so
it is less crowded. The perk here is that one can view the fireworks closer
than from Gwangalli Beach.
Make
sure to behold the Tower fireworks in particular this year that will feature
diverse shapes, such as circles and hearts, a feat accomplished by installing a
large tower crane on the upper layer of Gwangan Bridge.
Also
to be featured are Color Iguassu Falls fireworks, an upgraded version of
Niagara Falls fireworks, which are the kind that cascade from the upper layer
of Gwangan Bridge in three stages.
Twenty-five-inch
supersize fireworks, which wrap up the festival every year, will have extra
magnificence and splendor because more colors have been added to them. A
5,000-seat foreigner-only viewing section will be set up at the beach in front
of Gwangalli Beach’s Starbucks.
-How
to get there: Walk for 5 to 10 minutes after getting off at Geumnyeonsan
Station or Suyeong Station (Metro line No. 2).
