Parade and Festival “Wedding Road of the Queen Heo” is set to be held at the Daeseongdong Ancient Tombs site in Gimhae and the Hwamyeong Ecological Park in Busan Metropolitan City in Korea on November 8. This is a joint project conducted by the two cities and organized by TPO. This festival will be performed in a storytelling format, retailing the tale that Queen Heo from India arrived on the Korean peninsula 2,000 years ago to marry King Suro of Gaya, which was a kingdom based in Gimhae.

The festival, which will take place simultaneously in Busan and Gimhae, will consist of official events as well as cultural experiences and additional events. Of particular note, there will be an alternate reality game (ARG), encompassing various quiz and cultural experience programs, which is expected to draw many participants and bring attention to the relatively unknown stories about Queen Heo and King Suro. The game will kick off at the Daeseongdong Ancient Tombs site, and the contestants should solve quizzes and complete various challenges related to the royal couple as they make it to the Hwamyeong Ecological Park in Busan. During the game, a cultural guide will provide explanations along the way.

At the Hwamyeong Ecological Park, visitors will have a chance to participate in a number of cultural experience programs such as trying on Gaya costumes, making a map of the wedding road of the queen Heo, making a crown, making Sotdae(a pole signifying prayer). Participants will have a chance to visit the Queen Heo storytelling booth and get a Gaya marriage certificate, which will help them to understand the Gaya Kingdom better. The matrimony parade, the highlight of the festival, will be reminiscent of a performing arts program as it incorporates musical elements. There will also be a surprise performance where the participating citizens greet Queen Heo together with the parade group.

Meanwhile, a familiarization tour for travel agencies from Korea, China and Japan will be conducted on the day of the festival for the purpose of developing joint travel products related to the story of Queen Heo’s matrimony parade, involving the tourism resources of Busan and Gimhae. Participants in the tour are the Guangzhou, Beijing and Shanghai branches of CITS, one of the three largest state-run travel agencies in China, a leading outbound travel agency in Kyushu region, Japan, and two inbound travel agencies in Korea. They will have a chance to experience the festival in addition to inspection tour of tourism resources and infrastructures of Busan and Gimhae area.

Parade and Festival “Wedding Road of the Queen Heo” co-hosted by Busan Metropolitan city and Gimhae city, is expected to become a successful model for joint tourism programs that are developed based on the local history and tourism resources.
