Art works by world-class artists to be displayed

An illumination exhibit called the "Busan New Media Art Museum" opens April 5 on Gwangalli Beach in Busan.  "Digitation"by the late Paik Nam-june, the world-class video artist, will be on display.

Works by renowned artists such as “The Road to an Island"by the sculptor Shim Moon-seup; "The Sea of the Milky Way" by the French lighting artist Yann Kersale, who was in charge of lighting exhibits at the Normandie Bridge; and "Messages of Digital Light"by the American conceptual artist Jenny Holzer will be on display year-round.

Mr. Paik's "Digitation," a work 10 meters high and 5.2 meters wide, will be set up by the coastline to reflect the meeting of new media, nature and art.

"The Road to an Island" by Mr. Shim will cast laser lights onto a screen six meters wide and five meters high off the coast in the Gwangalli Beach with fountain facilities installed to display a variety of images that symbolize Busan including seagulls, small boats, swimming children and camellia flowers.  On the right side of the beach will be a large plant pot called "The Origin of Life" by Jean Pierre Raynaud, which is displayed in Potsdam Plaza in Berlin, in the Pompidou Center and in the Forbidden City in China.

The pot will be five meters tall and 5.4 meters wide.  On the left side of the beach, "Portrait of Interactive Images"by Chale de Meux will be presented.

"The Sea of the Milky Way" will cast light over a 2 kilometer esplanade by Gwangalli Beach.
