The bridges at Oncheoncheon (stream), a favorite resting place for citizens, are being decorated with beautiful lights.
Busan City submitted the Ocheoncheon bridges design renovation project as a public design development project, which was collected publicly by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy and the Korean Institute of Design Promotion. On July 15, a city official announced that the submitted project had been selected to receive national financial support.
Three bridges at Oncheoncheon (Sebyeong Bridge, Yeonan Bridge and Allak Bridge) will be transformed into cultural and symbolic places featuring regional characteristics on completion of the project.
The City plans to complete basic blueprints by November and the project will be carried out from 2010 to 2012. Night view lights will be installed on the three bridges and the stepping stones will be redesigned to be more nature-friendly. In addition, the Oncheoncheon management office will be imaginatively renovated.
Through the design renovation project, the city plans to enhance the bridges and facilities at Oncheoncheon as new tourism attractions.
As a result of ecological restoration and water quality improvement, Oncheoncheon has become a leisure spot for many residents of Dongnae-gu, Yeonje-gu and Geumjeong-gu. However, most of the existing bridges, which were built purely to improve traffic flow, take away from the natural beauty of the stream and create environmental problems of their own.
