BIWA holds Christmas charity bazaar selling handicrafts

Women from East and West come together to hold the Busan International Women’s Association or BIWA Christmas charity bazaar, whose proceeds will benefit the less-privileged citizens of Busan.

The bazaar runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on December 2.

Members will sell handicrafts, Christmas specialty items, even homemade breads and cookies. All the earnings from the sale will be contributed to the underprivileged. Visitors will find a variety of unique goods as they peruse the wares. Admission is 2,000 won ($2.1), and entry is free for children under 12 accompanied by their parents.

BIWA has held a charity bazaar on the first Saturday of December since its launch in 1965. The beneficiaries include the elderly living alone, the disabled and underprivileged students. This year, the foundation will make a special effort to help students with difficulty in hearing.

Maree Hutchinson, the chairwoman of BIWA says, “Christmas has a different meaning to each country. I hope this charity bazaar will be a valuable chance to share our things with unfortunate neighbors and to help them.” In addition to its charity endeavors, BIWA promotes cultural exchange and friendship among its members’ countries. BIWA has 120 members from 25 countries including the wives of multinational company employees residing here and diplomatic personnel.
