Busan City opened the Emergency Support Center for Migrant Women living in the Gyeongsang region on January 14 at the Main Tennis Stadium, Spo1Park (Geumjeong Sports Park), located in 669 Dugu-dong, Geumjeong-gu.

The Emergency Support Center for Migrant Women has been opened to support women facing problems including domestic violence, sexual assault, prostitution and similar hardships, which migrant women could face while living in Korea, and to provide them with medical and legal services as well.

The opening of this Gyeongsang region center brings the total number of centers nationwide to four, and it will cover the Busan, Ulsan, Daegu, Gyeongsangnam-do and Gyeongsangbuk-do areas.

This 125 center includes a consulting room and a training center, with 5 employees including a team leader deployed from the Ministry of Gender Equality. Four native consultants from China, Vietnam, the Philippines and Cambodia will provide a consultation service through the hotline, tel.1577-1366.

Spo1Park (Geumjeong Sports Park) is located at the northern end of Busan, so is close to both Gyeongsangnam-do and Gyeongsangbuk-do, with easy access to Gyeongbu Expressway’s Nopo IC, the Busan Central Bus Terminal at Nopo-dong and Nopo-dong Subway Station, and it is also near to the industrial complexes in Geumgsa, Jeonggwan, Onsan in Ulsan and Eogok in Yangsan.

In November 2008, Busan City opened a shelter for migrant women and in January 2009, the city opened a one-stop center to support those experiencing violence in schools. As a result of the opening of this support center, the city can now support migrant women more systematically.
