Now you can check out beach goers, your e-mail, the surf, and latest stock moves all in one place.
The Busan Metropolitan City announced Wednesday (Nov.7) that it has completed a 200-million-won project to install a free wireless network all around its famous Haeundae Beach and started pilot service.
The online service consists of a series of transponders -- 31 with a 100-meter radius spaced evenly on street lights -- along two kilometers of the main beach road and an additional 3.2 kilometers of side streets, including the road from Haeundae Station to the beach.
In addition to great scenery, Haeundae now features the same free Internet network service (FREE WIPI) found at other world famous resorts and airports.
There is no need to subscribe. Just turn on a WiFi-ready notebook or other device and start browsing the Net through Explorer or Netscape.
"This is especially useful for foreigners visiting Busan for only a short time. They can't subscribe to local service and previously their notebooks could access the Internet in only limited spaces like hotels. This project will help them get information anytime from anyplace within the covered beach area," Kim Kwang-hoe, director of Busan's U-City Policy said.
Busan is planning to expand online assistance next year. Its ubiquitous tourist information service will be launched in February and will allow one to seek tourist information, make reservations and settle accounts through a single mobile handset. Additional uses include finding lost children and getting directions.
