1,200 ethnic Korean businesspeople from 37 countries are promoting economic exchanges and business networks among the Korean business community during a three-day gathering in Busan.

In all, nearly 3,000 Korean businesspeople, including the 1,200 ethnic Koreans, will gather for the sixth World Korean Business Convention from Wednesday (Oct. 31) to Friday at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO).

CEOs of ethnic Korean-owned businesses, including Indonesia-based timber company Korindo Group, Japan's largest pachinko maker Maruhan and Laos-based Kolao, a leading investor in the construction of bio-diesel plants, will attend the convention and share their experiences and know-how through various programs.

On the first day, 2,000 businesspeople are registered to attend the opening ceremony of the Sixth World Korean Business Convention on Wednesday. STX Corporation Chairman Kang Duk-soo will deliver a keynote address along with high-profile officials and business leaders.

On the second day, business roundtable consultations will be held through various seminars. This program is designed to promote information exchange and trade revitalization between local and overseas Korean entrepreneurs who work in the textiles, food, and other sectors.

On Nov. 2, CEO mentoring sessions in five sectors -- U.S. government procurement, finance, ASEAN, IT, and Middle and South American markets -- will be held. The Korean CEOs of overseas companies, including Laos-based Kolao Group CEO Oh Se-young and Steven Koh, chairman of U.S.-based Wilshire State Bank, will share their know-how and give comprehensive advice for Korean firms aiming to enter international markets.

The businesspeople will discuss trade and investment contracts during the convention and enjoy a variety of events.

Many ethnic Korean businesspeople are expected to show increased interest in inter-Korean economic cooperation and the Gaeseong Industrial Complex thanks to the latest advancement of inter-Korean relations. An overseas job fair will also be held on the third day where participants will be able to receive useful, detailed tips for job searches.

Popular programs such as industrial exhibitions and one-on-one business meetings will be held during the convention along with medical and real estate investment tours.

In the industrial exhibitions, participants will be able to find opportunities to exchange business information as well as sample merchandise from both local and overseas Korean entrepreneurs. The one-on-one business meetings will allow attendants to schedule a talk with a compatible business partner through an on-site or online matching system.

Compared to last year's convention that generated profits estimated around $380 million through investments and business exchanges among the worldwide Korean business community, this year's convention is expected to generate $500 million worth of profit through business exchanges among the businesspeople at the event.
