Living
statue performances will take place every Saturday from noon to 2 pm at the
entrance of Haeundae Beach.
A
living statue is a street performer who poses like a statue or mannequin,
completely still, and makes sudden movements to entertain people who engage
with him/her. They are often seen on the street in Europe and South America,
however this is the first time for regular performances in Haeundae. The living
statues are going to perform as painters, street musicians, violinists, and
photographers.
Since
April, Haeundae-gu has been training a street art group as part of an art
industry job placement project. Seven citizens were recruited through auditions
and were trained for four hours a day alongside professional mime performers. According
to the response of residents after trial performances until August 16,
Haeundae-gu will decide whether or not to continue the performances.
The
street art group is highly acclaimed for its creativity and its performances
are expected to attract tourists. The creation of cultural art jobs by
Haeundae-gu is of special note, since most jobs traditionally provided by the local
government have been placements in construction and other forms of physical
labor.
