The
Busan National Gugak Center will host a “Pungmul* Performance” from June 27 to
October 18, 2015.
A
total of nine performances will be held on designated Saturdays at 5 p.m. at
either the Busan National Gugak Center or Busan Citizens Park.
The
official title of the Pungmul Performance is 어울마당
풍물세상 (Eoulmadang Pungmulnori) in Korean.
Various
traditional performances including Samulnori (traditional percussion art) and Gut
are reinterpreted by the performing group, as well as the ‘Cheongbae
Traditional Arts Troupe’ and will be presented to Busan citizens, Korean and
foreign tourists for an all-new experience involving Korean culture through
traditional arts.
The
traditional Pungmul Promotion Project of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and
Tourism, < Eoulmadang Pungmulnori> is scheduled to be held at eight
venues in six regions including Busan, Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Chungcheong-do,
Jeollanam-do and Jeollabuk-do to promote traditional art to the public and
cultivate talent.
The
first performance was held on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at 5 p.m. at the Busan
Citizens Park (Youth Cultural Square near North Gate).
Performances
are free for all and take place on the outdoor stage of the Busan National
Gugak Center or Busan Citizens Park to accommodate as many people as possible.
The venue for each performance will be announced at the Busan National Gugak
Center website (http://busan.gugak.go.kr)
In
case of rain, the performance will be held at Yejidang Hall in the Busan
National Gugak Center.

*Pungmul
is a Korean folk music tradition that includes drumming, dancing, and singing.
Most performances are outside, with dozens of performers, all in constant
