In celebration of the 10th anniversary of Pusan International Film Festival, the international conference titled "Asia/Cinema/Network - Industry, Technology and Film Texts" will be held Oct. 11-13 at Westin Chosun Hotel in Busan, co-hosted by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), the Institute of Media Art of Yonsei University, and the Film Studies Association of Korea (FISAK).
This academic conference will primarily survey various issues in contemporary Korean cinema and its advance by focusing on the industrial, cultural and aesthetic positions of Korean films within a pan-global frame. For further information on the conference, call (051) 747-7357.
Day 1 (Oct. 11): For a Network Making Film Technology and Industry Possible
Seminar 1: Digital Cinema
This seminar is conducted to enhance the understanding of global D-cinema Network status, review plans and devices for creating the international network and for technical collaborations of D-cinema. Also, policy directions for promoting Korean digital cinema will be reviewed.
Day 2 (Oct. 12): Korean Cinema and Asia from Trans-cultural Perspectives
Seminar 2: International Reception of Korean Cinema
The seminar deals with the reception of Korean films by other cultures including Asia, Europe, and America. Korean cinema will be reviewed in the context of Korean society and history.
Seminar 3: The Inter-Asia Flux of Fantasies
The seminar presents developments in interdisciplinary cinematic practices (including spectatorship), covering semiotic, psychoanalytic, and political-economic approaches to the problems of cultural production, distribution, and reception.
Seminar 4: Negotiation between Western Film Studies and Asian Cinema
This is a critical investigation on the discourse of Asian films, searching for a new direction of Asian film theory within a global frame. Particularly, this seminar is concerned with the latest cross-cultural trends among Asian cultures as well as between Asian cultures and Hollywood.
Day 3 (Oct. 13): Contemporary Korean Films in a Global Frame
Seminar 5: Film Aesthetics in East Asian Countries and Trans-culture
This seminar will discuss the aesthetic characteristics of films in East Asian Countries, comparing contemporary Korean films with Japanese auteur cinema and Chinese sixth-generation films.
Seminar 6: Global City, Blockbuster Spectacle, and Korean Cinema
This seminar will focus on the relation between post-modernity and contemporary Korean cinema. The current Korean cinema represents Seoul as a global city in spectacular ways. So-called "urban films" in Korean cinema inscribe a more and more globalizing cityscape of Seoul.
Seminar 7: Lee Man-hee, the Poet of the Night
This seminar will provide a new opportunity to re-evaluate the cinematic world of Lee Man-hee, director of "Late Autumn," "Homebound," and "A Road to Sampo." He has been praised as a great artist with passion for film. A cinematic stylist, Lee crossed various genres.
Events
This year's edition will offer by far the most comprehensive festival programs, not only to look back on the nine years of its history, but to celebrate its 10th anniversary. Every event provides various channels of opportunity for audience participation.
Closing Party
PIFF will present a set of special performances including 100 gayageum, a twelve-stringed Korean traditional zither, played by a group of Busan citizens.

PIFF Cafe
PIFF Cafe will be open to general audiences to enhance their festival experience during the entire festival period. Free drinks will be served.

PIFF Green Zone
With the support of Naver.com, the festival will have programs for the disabled as well. There will be an invitation for disabled people and their families. Also, the Green zone will offer concerts and outdoor movies. Subtitles, interpretation, and audio phones will be provided.
Cinematic Love
A special event for young trendsetters. This groovy music party will be held at Haeundae outdoor theater with performances by internationally-acclaimed DJs and several local musicians, as well as visual presentations by VJs. This event will surely be the highlight of the festival.

Open Concerts
Before the screening of the Open Cinema section, Open Concerts will be held nightly to complement the fun and amusement of watching films.
