Air Busan, Ltd., a regional budget airline, will launch services between its home city and Gimpo, west of Seoul, in late October, the company said.

Air Busan, the successor of Busan International Air set up by Busan City and regional business leaders in July last year, has prepared by recruiting pilots, aircraft maintenance personnel and other air experts, under the initiative of Asiana Airlines, which joined the services as a major shareholder last April.

The Busan-based airline will open the air route between Busan and Jeju, the southernmost island of Korea, by the end of this year.

Air Busan is scheduled to launch international passenger services to Chinese, Japanese and Southeast Asian destinations around the end of next year. The airline will import three Boeing B737-500s by the end of this year and an additional two B737-400 aircraft before the launch of its international services.

The B737-500 has a passenger capacity of up to 130 'travel' or economy class seats on domestic routes and up to 117 seats - eight business class and 109 travel class - on international routes.

The B737-400s will carry up to 166 passengers on the domestic routes and 148 passengers - eight business and 140 travel - on international routes. Airfares will be roughly 85-90 percent of those of existing major airlines and tickets will be available via its homepage (http://flyairbusan.com) and the reservation center (051-410-0800).
