Number grows 8.6 % to 30,031
The number of foreigners living in Busan totaled 27,661 as of the end of 2007, up 2,369, or 8.6 percent, from a year earlier.
According to the 2007 census announced recently by the city, the number of foreign residents accounted for 0.8 percent of total population of Busan.
By nationality, the Chinese took the lion's share with 7,833 (26.1 percent), followed by Korean-Chinese with 5,847 (19.5 percent), Vietnamese with 3,417 (11.4 percent), Taiwanese with 1,791 (6.0 percent), Filipinos with 1,508 (5.0 percent) and Indonesians with 1,266 (4.2 percent).
Korean-Chinese showed the biggest growth with 718 residents, chased by Chinese with 552 and Vietnamese with 450.
Foreign men totaled 17,344 in number, or 57.8 percent, outnumbering 12,687 foreign women, or 42.2 percent of the total, by 4,657 persons.
Saha-gu District accommodated most foreigners with 3,968, followed by Gangseo-gu District with 3,598, Sasang-gu District with 3,564 and Haeundae-gu District with 2,424. The number of foreign residents in Busan has been on a steady rise. Their annual increases were 1,702 persons in 2000, 2,579 in 2003, 1,739 in 2005 and 3,850 in 2006.
