Three NE Asian ministers agree on expanding cruise tour

Busan City is to be reborn as the tourism center of three Northeast Asian countries at a meeting of related ministers from Korea, China and Japan. The three ministers recently adopted the "Busan Declaration," elevating the nation's largest port city to the center of regional tourism exchanges.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon, Director-General Shao Chiwey of China's National Leisure Bureau and Japanese Minister of National Land and Transportation Detsuzo Fuyushiba adopted the "Busan Declaration" during a conference at Nurimaru APEC House in Haeundae-gu District on June 23.

The two foreign governments positively accepted Busan's official request for expanding direct routes between Busan and various Chinese and Japanese cities and reinvigorating triangular tourism system linking Busan, Shanghai and Osaka.

According to the "Busan Declaration," the three countries will gradually establish payment settlement system in tourism for use by tourists of one country when visiting two others. As a pilot project, they will allow tourists to pay transportation fees with one card in Korea, China and Japan from Sept. 1.

The three ministers also decided to expand cruise tours linking their countries as a means of luring tourists both from in and outside of the region, cooperate for developing tour products linking major attractions of the three countries and push for joint presentation at tourism fairs held outside of the region.
