The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) is running an intensive training course for long-term weather forecasters from Indonesia, Vietnam and Peru.

A KMA spokesman said the weather agency has organized the course jointly with the APEC Climate Center based in the southeastern port city of Busan.

He said the three-month training program is under the auspices of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

The course, which started on Aug. 5, will continue until Nov. 4 in the KMA headquarters in Seoul and the APEC Climate Center in Busan.

The three weathermen, one each from the three countries, are receiving extensive training to acquire skills for making long-term weather forecasts.

Sixteen researchers and professors from the KMA, the APEC Climate Center and Pusan National University are giving lectures for the course.

The KMA spokesman said Korea can transfer its climate prediction know-how to foreign countries, especially developing nations in the Asia-Pacific region, by operating the training program.
