The Busan International Performing Arts Festival Organizing Committee is proud to announce this year’s selections to open and close the 12th Busan International Performing Arts Festival (BIPAF) May 1-10.
The Taming of the Shrew (La Megere Apprivoisee) from France
and Romeo and Juliet (Amor mai non s'addorme) from Italy have been selected as
the opening and closing performances respectively.
Opening Performance <The Taming of the
Shrew (La Megere Apprivoisee)>
To most people, Shakespeare was best known for his
historical stories and tragedies. Therefore, we tend to forget the fact that
Shakespeare wrote satirical comedies as well.
Theatre Company ‘Diffusion’ succeeds in making this
Shakespeare comedy its own in 'The Taming of the Shrew', which will leave audiences
wanting more.
The play starts with the explosive appearance of a wicked
woman and changing stage settings add a new and exciting feel to each scene.
Actors of theater 'Les têtes de bois' enjoy their performances by conveying their
passion and happiness to the audience.

Closing Performance <Romeo and Juliet (Amor
mai non s'addorme)>
Romeo and Juliet at the center. They are as pale as
ghosts, covered in blood as the main characters of a tragedy’s last scene,
ready to obsessively repeat their key lines and bare their wounds. At the same
time they are alive, unaware, trepidant and funny as characters at the
beginning of a new story.
What are they going to do? They are ghosts, willing to needlessly
shed their blood, to repeat the words and gestures that brought them to the
catastrophe, characters who remember dying, ready to scream at each other.
