Memorial from Australia, chrysanthemum show among highlights at 66th UN Day ceremony

Busan City will have a special ceremony celebrating United Nations Day on October 24 at the UN Memorial Cemetery in Daeyeon-dong.

The city will invite ambassadors from countries that participated in the 1950-53 Korean War including the United States, Britain, France and New Zealand to host a memorial ceremony.

Busan Mayor Hur Nam-sik, government officials and diplomatic leaders will participate in the 66th United Nations Day ceremony. A documentary commemorating the special day will be screened and a choir will perform ahead of the unveiling of the monument, which shows the work of the Australian Air Force during the Korean War.

Afterwards, flowers will be offered in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the war.

This will be followed by several minutes of silence in honor of the fallen soldiers including General Richard S.Whitcomb who loves Korea more than Koreans do.

From October 23 to 31, there will be an exhibition of the flowers which will be decorated with 3,700 chrysanthemums paying tribute to the deceased troops near the square and the cemetery.

This period will be designated a special time for Busan City residents to commemorate and post tributes on the UN Memorial Cemetery Web site.
