‘Flying High’ on Gwangalli with fireworks
The 7th Busan International Fireworks Festival will unfold from October 21 to 29
A supermodel contest, visual pyrotechnics, opera performances and a star-studded K-pop concert are just some of the highlights of the 7th Busan International Fireworks Festival, which will take place from October 21 to 29 at Gwangalli Beach and on Gwangan Bridge.
This year the festival has been extended from three to nine days and will feature not one but two shows on October 22 and 29. There will also be a K-pop concert and various cultural performances and events as the festival runs under the theme of “Flying High.”
Coinciding with the first show, organizers have prepared a 60-minute competition involving Japan, China, the United States and Poland. Each team will have 15 minutes to impress the judges with their respective pyrotechnic displays.
Meanwhile, on October 29, the Busan Fireworks Display will use cutting-edge multimedia to stage a show using lasers, lights and music while firing off dazzling fireworks such as the Niagara and Firebird.
The theme of this year’s festival symbolizes Busan City’s ambition, passion and belief in chasing and realizing its dreams.
One of the highlights of this year’s event will be a music concert at Gwangalli Beach on October 28 featuring Korean Wave stars including Bigbang, SHINee, Kara, T-ara, Miss A, U-Kiss, Seven, Psy and ZE:A. The concert will run for 90 minutes.
There will also be a supermodel contest and fashion show called “Sharing the Love” on October 21. For five days from October 23, smaller fireworks shows will light up the sky daily and the opera “Turandot” will be performed. There will also be a book signing by Choi Ji-woo for her tour guide “Ji-woo’s love story in Busan” on October 28 on the 9th floor of Shinsegae Centum City. Choi is an honorary ambassador for Busan tourism.
"Sharing the Love" event rescheudled to October 25 due to rain.
“We are expecting 3 million visitors during the festival,” organizers said.“The new improved format and longer duration have transformed this into a substantial tourist draw and we’re sure it’s going to give the local economy a boost.”
