Busan City's sister city of Shimonoseki in Japan has built a "Busan Gate" at the entrance of Green Mall near JR Shimonoseki Station, where Korean grocery shops and bulgogi restaurants are gathered.
The gate, which is designed to look like part of an old Korean fortress, measures 7.6 meters x 5 meters. It is based on an investment of 26 million yen (370 million won-$336,976.32) and was constructed on August 20. The new development marks the 35th anniversary of the sister cities' special relationship.
"Busan Gate represents a gift commemorating the friendship of the two cities," said Busan City Mayor Hur Nam-sik.
"We hope it will be an opportunity for many Busan citizens to visit this place."
Nakao Tomoaki, the mayor of Shimonoseki, said, "With the construction of Busan Gate, let us improve the exchange activities between our two countries."
