Busan City has announced that it will be opening ‘Mobile Tourist Information Centers’ at Busan Station, Gimhae International Airport and the International Passenger Ferry Terminal in September.

Major international events – like the Fourth High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness (HLF-4) in Nov. 2011) and the 95th Lions Clubs International Convention (LCIC) in June, 2012 – are scheduled to be held in Busan.

Therefore, to establish international and domestic tourism demand at the international level, and to provide international and domestic tourists with greater convenience and differentiated services as well, Busan City will utilize tourist guides with foreign language expertise.

Tourist guides who speak English, Japanese or Chinese will walk around Busan Station, Gimhae International Airport and the International Passenger Ferry Terminal area ready to offer foreign tourists with related services, including tourism information and transportation advice, imformation on accommodations and cultural events, and providing them with a tourist map. Starting from September every Saturday and Sunday, the tourist guides – one each at the three locations – will work from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., dressed in yellow green vests so tourists can easily distinguish them.

The mobile tourist information center was started at Gwangbok-dong and the Nampo-dong area of Busan in December 2009 and then, from May 2010, three more tour guides speaking either English, Japanese or Chinese were employed to walk around the Seomyeon area from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. every day.

In addition, during the summer months of July and August, six sightseeing interpreters were on hand to help out foreign tourists at Gwangalli, Haeundae and Songdo Beaches.

An official of Busan City said, “Tourist guides with foreign language expertise were stationed at the gateways of Busan – the station, airport and ferry terminal – to create a more friendly impression of Busan”, and added, “We will strive to increase the number of visitors by developing various tourism services and satisfying tourism demand.”
