Extension of KTX-Eum Services (Cheongnyangni-Bujeon Route): Sinhaeundae, Centum, and Gijang Stations Confirmed

□ Sinhaeundae, Centum, and Gijang have been authorized as the newest stops on the Jungang Line (Cheongnyangni ~ Bujeon) of the KTX-Eum, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on December 15, 2025.

○ Starting December 30, KTX-Eum high-speed trains between Bujeon Station in Busan Metropolitan City and Cheongnyangni Station in Seoul Metropolitan City will serve these three stations, facilitating access for Busan citizens to the capital and adjacent areas.

□ Under the plan, the Jungang Line will call at Sinhaeundae eight times, and at Centum and Gijang twice daily.

○ Jungang Line schedules will scale up from 6 to 18 per day (9 in each direction). Signaling upgrades on the Andong–Yeongcheon section will shorten one-way travel time by 18 minutes, from 3 hours 56 minutes to 3 hours 38 minutes.

○ Residents of Haeundae-gu and Gijang-gun will now be able to board Seoul-bound high-speed rail at nearby stations without heading to Busan Station.

□ Six daily KTX-Eum runs will also be introduced on the Donghae Line (Bujeon ~ Gangneung), enabling a three-hour radius between Busan and Gangwon-do.

○ On the Donghae Line, where ITX-Maum has operated since last January, six new KTX-Eum trains a day (three in each direction) will commence.

○ Journey time on the Bujeon-Gangneung section, previously 5 hours 4 minutes via the ITX-Maum, will be cut to 3 hours 54 minutes thanks to the KTX-Eum—which completes a wide-area transportation network along the eastern coast from Busan to Gangneung and is expected to spur tourism and socioeconomic prosperity.

□ The expanded KTX-Eum stops reflect the city’s sustained efforts to bolster connectivity in the southeast.

○ Since 2021, Busan has consistently advocated for additional KTX-Eum stops and enhanced operations on the Jungang and Donghae Lines to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Railroad Corporation.

○ It has also proposed measures to boost accessibility in East Busan around Bujeon Station and establish a corridor incorporating urban, metropolitan, and national railways, emphasizing the importance of KTX-Eum connections in promoting balanced regional development.

□ Mayor Park Heong-joon commented, “This decision, realized in partnership with the Busan Metropolitan Council, fulfills the long-standing citizen aspirations. Busan will broaden its day-to-day mobility to the Seoul Metropolitan Area as well as Gyeongsangbuk-do and Gangwon-do, creating a major transport axis encompassing tourism and industry on its path to becoming a global hub.”

□ He went on to say, “In light of ridership trends, we will continue consultations with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Railroad Corporation regarding further increases in stopping frequencies and related transit systems to maximize traveler comfort and efficiency.”
