Busan City Hall Roof Garden Opens to Public

□ On November 5, 2025, at 10:30, Busan Metropolitan City held a grand opening ceremony for the new Roof Garden.

○ Originally created on the fourth-floor rooftop of City Hall in 2014 under the name ‘Haneul Madang’ and reserved exclusively for staff to ensure security, the space has been refurbished into a peaceful, serene oasis for residents.

○ Approximately 120 people, including Mayor Park Heong-joon and selected young attendees, joined the opening event.

□ Roof Garden has been redesigned for relaxation, appreciation of changing blooms, and various activities.

○ In addition to seasonal floral displays, it features seating areas, a play zone, and a greenhouse classroom.

□ Beyond being a natural haven, Roof Garden also hosts a wide array of fun programs for children.

○ In collaboration with Deullak Nallak, a kid-focused complex inside City Hall, the ‘Exciting Alley Playground’ session takes place on Saturdays at 10:00 and 11:00.

○ As part of the ‘Green Dream Expedition’ pilot project, which connects neighborhood pocket parks with nearby kindergartens within a 15-minute radius, participants from the City Hall daycare will engage in gardening.

□ Everyone is invited to enjoy Roof Garden.

○ For the sake of safety, operating hours are set from 09:00 to 18:00.

□ It can be accessed via the lobby elevator.

□ Building on the successful unveiling of Domoheon, the renovated former mayor’s residence, in 2024, Roof Garden marks another step toward fostering a ‘city where citizens are happy in their daily lives.’

○ Since September 2024, Domoheon has welcomed 360,000 guests and has become a beloved communal venue. Roof Garden aims to follow suit as a downtown retreat.

□ In his remarks, Mayor Park said, “While advancing the 15-minute city concept, we remain devoted to enhancing day-to-day happiness in a citizen-oriented way. Last year, we rejuvenated the former mayoral home as Domoheon, a cultural community center. By reinvigorating the once underutilized rooftop garden, we now hope to further realize the vision of the 15-Minute City Busan. We look forward to your attention.”
