An exhibition of Buddhist art from Myanmar will make its debut in Korea on Nov. 19 to mark the ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit and the inaugural Korea-Mekong Summit, both set to take place in Busan.
The Busan Museum announced on November 8th that it will host, "Buddhist Art of Myanmar" through January 12th.
Displaying 110 works loaned by four Myanmar national museums in Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw, including the Bagan Archaeological Museum and Sri Ksetra Archaeological Museum, as well as Myanmarese artifacts from the National Museum of Korea's collection, the exhibition comprises four themes to raise public understanding of Myanmar's history and culture.
The first theme introduces original forms of Buddhist culture and the second will focus on aspects of Buddhist art. The last two themes focus on the advancement and transformation of Buddhist culture.
Among the artworks to be displayed include remains from Myanmar's ancient city-state of Sri Ksetra showing early Buddhist culture in Myanmar, as well as sculptures depicting the eight main events of Buddha's life, such as his birth and him shaving his head.
The Busan Museum said, "This exhibition will provide a good opportunity to come to one venue to learn about Myanmar's history, culture and traditional Buddhist art, which have not been properly introduced as of yet in Korea."
