The
exhibit "Qi Baishi: From Carpenter to Master" will take place at the
Busan Museum from November 6th to December 10th, 2017 to
celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic
ties between the Republic of Korea and China.
The
exhibition will feature 153 artworks, including 133 works of paintings,
calligraphy and engravings from the Hunan Provincial Museum, Qi's native
province and Qi Baishi Memorial Hall in Xiangtan, and 20 works of Chinese
modern calligraphers from the Hunan Province.
On
November 6th, opening events, including a lecture about the
exhibition at 2:00 p.m., traditional Chinese music, Guzheng performance at 3:40
p.m. and the opening ceremony at 4:00 p.m. are scheduled to be held at the
Busan Museum.
Qi
Baishi (齊白石) (1864-1957),
born into a farming family in Central China's Hunan province, became a
carpenter at the age of 14 and began studying art at 27. After traveling
throughout China, he settled in Beijing in his late 50s and developed a unique
style, boldly blending his individual artist style with traditional Chinese
painting methods.
