Busan Metropolitan City Rolls Out Comprehensive Chuseok Holiday Measures: Supporting Livelihoods and Leaving No Gaps in Safety

□ Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, announced that it will implement the “2026 Comprehensive Chuseok Holiday Measures” to ensure that Busan citizens and visitors returning home for the holiday can enjoy a prosperous and happy Chuseok.

○ The comprehensive measures comprise 72 tasks across seven areas to ease household financial burdens during the holiday period and help citizens maintain safe and comfortable daily lives.

□ A Secure and Warm Chuseok: Busan Metropolitan City will create an environment that encourages consumption and manage price stability during Chuseok to revitalize the local economy, while supporting care and sharing initiatives so that all citizens can enjoy a warm holiday.

○ Livelihood Economy: The city will ease the burden of rising prices on citizens and invigorate the local economy through measures including a Dongbaekjeon Chuseok spending promotion event, in which 22,000 people who spend at least KRW 100,000 will be selected by lottery to receive a KRW 5,000 QR coupon; the issuance of Dongbaekjeon consumption-boosting QR coupons; a temporary increase in the Dongbaekjeon cashback rate to 15%; Onnuri Gift Certificate refund events at traditional markets for agricultural and livestock products at 27 locations and seafood at 41 locations; and policy financing support for small businesses and small and medium-sized enterprises.

○ Welfare and Sharing: The city will expand the spirit of sharing through measures including Chuseok慰問 payments for 27,000 households of older adults living alone, support for joint ancestral rite tables at four homeless facilities, and the delivery of donations and goods through the Busan Community Chest of Korea and the Korean Red Cross.

□ A Safe and Healthy Chuseok: To ensure a safe holiday for citizens, the city will operate 24-hour disaster and fire response systems and strengthen emergency medical services and emergency disease-control measures to protect public safety and health.

○ Public Safety: During the holiday period, the city will maintain 24-hour disaster and fire response systems by operating a 24-hour Disaster Situation Room, placing fire stations on special alert, and operating a Special Forest Fire Prevention Headquarters. It will also proactively eliminate risk factors through intensive safety management inspections of 533 multi-use buildings, safety inspections of 10 large-scale events and festivals, and inspections of vulnerable facilities.

○ Health and Medical Care: From September 24 to 27, the four-day Chuseok holiday, 38 emergency medical institutions will maintain 24-hour medical services, while the city will establish and operate an Emergency Medical Situation Room to monitor emergency medical services. The city will also support hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies that remain open on Chuseok Day, September 25, strengthen hygiene management for foods in high demand during the holiday, and maintain a 24-hour surveillance and response system for major infectious diseases.

□ A Comfortable and Enjoyable Chuseok: During the holiday period, the city will offer a variety of cultural and tourism programs and improve transportation and everyday convenience so that citizens and travelers heading to and returning from their hometowns can enjoy a comfortable holiday.

○ Culture and Tourism: The city will promote local tourism by offering a wide range of attractions and activities during the holiday, including Chuseok cultural and exhibition programs at museums and art museums, events at tourist attractions such as Yongdusan Park and Taejongdae, nighttime tourism programs such as dinner cruises and balcony music shows, and a special opening of DOMOHEON on September 26 and 27.

○ Transportation: To improve travel convenience for people heading to and returning from their hometowns, the city will increase express and intercity bus and rail services by 200 trips and 15,407 passengers per day compared with normal operations. Tolls will also be waived on eight toll roads within Busan during the four-day Chuseok holiday.

○ Daily Convenience: During the holiday period, the city plans to intensively manage the living environment, including waste treatment facilities, and respond promptly to inconveniences experienced by citizens by ensuring a stable supply of tap water through the operation of a Water Supply Situation Room and advance inspections of water supply facilities.

□ Meanwhile, in implementing these comprehensive measures, Busan Metropolitan City and its 16 districts and county will deploy a total of 13,164 employees for comprehensive Chuseok holiday situation-management duties.

○ During the four-day Chuseok holiday, the city will operate a Comprehensive Holiday Situation Room consisting of eight response teams covering administration, disaster prevention, health, transportation, environment, forest fires, water supply, and firefighting. Through this system, the city plans to handle public inquiries and complaints promptly and respond to incidents and accidents in a timely manner.

○ The city will also operate a Chuseok holiday information website at https://www.busan.go.kr/chuseok during the holiday period, providing essential information for citizens in areas including medical care, safety, transportation, tourism, and the environment.

□ Mayor Chun Jae-soo stated, “Chuseok is a meaningful time for families and neighbors to share warmth and affection. We will provide strong support for people’s livelihoods and leave no gaps in safety so that citizens can enjoy the holiday without worry. We will continue sharing and care efforts so that traditional markets and neighborhood commercial districts can gain renewed vitality and neighbors in need are not left behind, while also ensuring thorough preparedness for disasters, fires, and emergency medical care.”

□ He added, “We will carefully address every aspect of citizens’ daily lives, including reducing transportation inconvenience for people heading to and returning from their hometowns and minimizing everyday disruptions during the holiday period. Busan Metropolitan City and its 16 districts and county will work together to do everything possible to ensure that all citizens enjoy a safe and comfortable Chuseok.”
