Mayor Chun Jae-soo Launches On-Site Communication Project Across Busan’s 16 Districts and Counties and 206 Towns, Townships, and Neighborhoods

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, announced that it will conduct the first field visit under the 9th elected administration’s “On-Site Communication Project for 206 Towns, Townships, and Neighborhoods” today, September 15, visiting Dong-gu and Jung-gu as part of the initiative “Transforming Everyday Life Across Every Corner of Busan.”

The project is a community-focused communication initiative in which the mayor personally visits locations closely connected to citizens’ daily lives, listens to residents, and works on site with district and county governments and relevant city departments to identify solutions.

In particular, the initiative extends to district and county communities the administrative approach that Mayor Chun has emphasized since taking office: finding answers alongside citizens and responding with changes that people can genuinely experience. It is also intended to establish an ongoing cooperative framework in which Busan Metropolitan City and its districts and counties work together to resolve local issues.

On September 15, Mayor Chun will visit major sites in Dong-gu and Jung-gu in sequence with Dong-gu Mayor Kang Cheol-ho and Jung-gu Mayor Choi Jin-bong to hear directly from residents.

In Dong-gu, the first stop of the day, the mayor will visit the Dongcheon Stream pedestrian deck behind Busan Citizens Hall, Kkiriramyeon Branch No. 2, the hillside road near Munhwa Apartments, the steep slope in front of Seonggyeol Church, and the All Together Care Center inside the Ibagu Multi-Purpose Culture and Sports Center.

At the Dong-gu sites, the mayor will focus on issues that residents experience directly in their daily lives, including disaster prevention and the creation of a safer pedestrian environment, improvements to aging facilities along hillside roads, maintenance of steep slopes, elimination of gaps in welfare services, and expansion of child care systems.

In Jung-gu, the mayor will then visit the Yeongju-dong Uphill Monorail, the Jung-gu Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, and a Good Price Business in Nampo-dong to hear views from the field concerning elderly care and welfare services, local price stability, and the challenges facing small business owners.

At each location, Mayor Chun plans to listen directly to residents and relevant stakeholders and discuss solutions to local issues with the district mayors. He also stated that Busan Metropolitan City and the districts and counties will actively cooperate to address inconveniences identified on site, swiftly implement necessary projects, and make every effort to provide related budget support.

Ahead of the visits, Mayor Chun said, “Residents do not distinguish between City Hall and their district offices. Busan Metropolitan City and the districts and counties must work as one team, listen to citizens, and find answers on the ground.”

Previously, on September 3, Mayor Chun established a cooperative framework between Busan Metropolitan City and its districts and counties and built a shared understanding of Busan’s future vision through the “9th Elected Administration City-District-County Communication and Cooperation Meeting,” held in the main conference room at City Hall.

Beginning with Dong-gu and Jung-gu, Busan Metropolitan City plans to visit all 16 districts and counties in sequence by the end of the year, including Seo-gu and Yeongdo-gu on September 21, to review local issues. It will also hold regional town hall meetings to continue communicating directly with citizens.

Finally, Mayor Chun will share a “Field Meal with Citizens” at a Good Price Business in Nampo-dong, Jung-gu, together with the Jung-gu mayor and local residents, providing another opportunity to hear firsthand voices from the community.

The restaurant selected for the luncheon is a third-generation grilled-fish restaurant that is popular with local residents and merchants for serving freshly prepared mackerel and generous side dishes at reasonable prices.

A Jung-gu official shared the story of restaurant owner Park Hee-sook and her spouse, who provided free meals to an elderly neighbor living alone for five years and even helped with funeral arrangements after the neighbor passed away. In appreciation of the restaurant owners’ longstanding care for their community, Mayor Chun plans to present them with a support plaque for Good Price Businesses specially produced by Busan Metropolitan City.

Mayor Chun emphasized, “Over the four years and 209 weeks of my term, I will visit every corner of Busan’s 206 towns, townships, and neighborhoods, listen to residents, and ensure that the administration responds to what they say. We will create one small but tangible change at a time that citizens can truly feel in their daily lives.”
