Busan Metropolitan City and Korea Youth Foundation Join Forces to Make Busan a City Where Young People Stay and Grow!

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, announced that it will sign a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Youth Foundation today, September 15, at 1:30 p.m. in the International Protocol Room at City Hall for the “Program to Support Young People’s Stable Local Settlement, Independence, and Growth.” The city will also appoint Korea Youth Foundation Chairman Oh Chang-seok as its Policy Advisor on Youth Affairs.

Mayor Chun Jae-soo and Korea Youth Foundation Chairman Oh Chang-seok will attend the signing ceremony and sign the memorandum of understanding.

Through the agreement, Busan Metropolitan City and the Korea Youth Foundation will work together to support young people in settling and growing in the local community.

Established in 2015 under the Office for Government Policy Coordination, the Korea Youth Foundation develops youth support models, provides tailored assistance for independence, and serves as an intermediary support organization for youth policy linking the national and local levels.

Under the agreement, the two organizations will cooperate to establish a foundation for young people in Busan to settle and grow locally; identify and implement collaborative projects in areas including employment, housing, education, entrepreneurship, finance, and culture; provide youth policy consultation, exchange information, and support professional capacity building; identify outstanding Busan-specific models for youth settlement and disseminate their achievements; and address other matters necessary to support young people in settling in Busan and advance youth policy.

The two organizations plan to jointly design specific project models and implementation measures and gradually develop field-oriented collaborative initiatives that enable young people to more directly experience the benefits of youth policies.

In addition, Busan Metropolitan City will appoint Korea Youth Foundation Chairman Oh Chang-seok as its Policy Advisor on Youth Affairs on the same day, further strengthening the youth policy cooperation framework connecting the national and local levels.

During his two-year term, Policy Advisor Oh Chang-seok will provide advice aimed at enhancing the expertise and implementation capacity of Busan Metropolitan City’s youth policies.

In particular, he will support the establishment of cooperative networks with national youth policy institutions and related organizations, provide advice on key youth policy issues in Busan, help incorporate views from the field into policy, and promote outstanding Busan-specific practices nationwide.

Through the memorandum of understanding and the appointment of the policy advisor, Busan Metropolitan City plans to strengthen youth policy linkages between the national and local levels and continuously identify Busan-specific policy models that young people can tangibly benefit from.

Mayor Chun Jae-soo is expected to say, “For young people to settle in Busan, support must extend beyond jobs to encompass the many dimensions of life, including housing, education, culture, and social networks. By building on the Korea Youth Foundation’s nationwide network and expertise, we will further strengthen Busan’s policy capabilities and make the city a place where young people can find opportunities, grow, and choose to stay for the long term.”
