Busan Metropolitan City and the Prime Minister’s Secretariat to Hear Voices from the Field on Support Policies for Small Business Owners

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, announced that it will hold the “Field Communication Meeting with Small Business Owners in Busan” together with the Prime Minister’s Secretariat tomorrow, September 15, at 2:00 p.m. in Room 101 of the BEXCO Convention Hall.

The meeting has been organized to assess how small business and local commercial district support policies pursued by the central and local governments are being experienced on the ground, hear directly from local merchants and commercial district stakeholders, and discuss future directions for revitalizing local commercial districts.

In particular, as support policies for commercial districts continue to expand, the meeting will provide an opportunity to examine how those policies are actually working in the field and jointly explore ways to narrow the gap between support policies and real-world needs.

Approximately 60 participants are expected to attend, including representatives from the Prime Minister’s Secretariat and Busan Metropolitan City, local merchants, representatives and experts from related organizations, and citizens.

Rather than relying on one-way policy briefings or simply collecting suggestions, the meeting will consist of presentations and designated discussions organized by policy topic.

Participants will freely share their experiences and perspectives from the field and exchange views on the policy directions of the central and local governments.

The main discussion will focus intensively on three key issues affecting small business owners and local commercial districts.

The first session will address “Changes in Consumption Patterns Resulting from Increased Visitors to Busan and Response Measures for Small Business Owners and Local Currencies.” The second session will cover “Reforming Commercial District-Based Support Programs and Improving the National Government Funding System in Response to Expanding Tourism Consumption.” The third session will discuss “Rationalizing Business Regulations, Including Outdoor Business Operations and the Use of Public Property, to Meet Visitor Demand.”

Through these discussions, participants will examine ways to revitalize local commercial districts in response to the changing consumption environment and identify directions for improvement that can enhance the effectiveness of, and public perception of benefits from, the central government’s and Busan Metropolitan City’s policies supporting small business owners and commercial districts, based on feedback from the field.

During the open discussion that follows, local merchants and commercial district stakeholders will present the difficulties they encounter in the field and make policy recommendations, while participants freely exchange views on these issues.

Based on the opinions presented at the meeting, Busan Metropolitan City plans to explore improvements to enhance the effectiveness of support policies for small business owners and ensure that their benefits are more tangible in the field.

Matters that can be improved at the municipal level will be considered for incorporation into future policies for small business owners and commercial districts, while issues requiring institutional improvements at the central government level will be shared with the Prime Minister’s Secretariat and other relevant organizations.
