Busan Metropolitan City Mobilizes Bipartisan Cooperation to Resolve Key Issues and Secure National Funding

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, announced that it held a Budget Policy Consultative Meeting with National Assembly Member Han Dong-hoon today, September 14, at 10:00 a.m. in Small Conference Room 2 on the 12th floor of City Hall to discuss major municipal issues and ways to secure national funding for next year.

Representing Busan Metropolitan City at the meeting were Vice Mayor for Future Innovation Oh Seok-keun, key aides including the Special Advisor for Political Affairs, and the Assistant Mayor of Planning and Coordination Office. National Assembly Member Han Dong-hoon and his aides attended on behalf of the lawmaker’s office.

This was the first formal consultative meeting between Busan Metropolitan City and National Assembly Member Han Dong-hoon’s office, demonstrating the City’s efforts to establish close cooperation with the local political community to resolve key pressing issues and secure national funding.

The City requested Han Dong-hoon’s full support for nine major issues essential to Busan’s development, including the second relocation of public institutions to regions outside the capital area, the timely opening of Gadeokdo New Airport, the conversion of Baptist Hospital into a public hospital, and the establishment of a safe drinking-water supply system.

Given that Han Dong-hoon serves on the National Assembly Budget and Accounts Committee, the participants also reached a shared understanding on 17 key projects requiring national financial support next year.

Projects discussed included the establishment of the National Quantum Innovation Center; a Physical AI-based Total Care AX Platform linked to community care; the creation of a Blockchain Creative District; the establishment and operation of a Maritime and Port AX Demonstration Center; the establishment of a next-generation power semiconductor production platform; the development of infrastructure for an AI-based Biomaterials Process Innovation Convergence Support Center; and the AI Transformation Project for the Busan Eco Delta Smart City National Pilot City.

Han Dong-hoon said, “There can be no division between the ruling and opposition parties or among political factions when it comes to the development of Busan and Buk-gu. We will move beyond our differences, actively cooperate toward our shared goal of advancing Busan and Buk-gu, and work together to deliver tangible results through funding and concrete achievements.”

Vice Mayor for Future Innovation Oh Seok-keun said, “Busan is now at a critical juncture when it must simultaneously make a leap toward becoming a maritime capital and transition to future-oriented new industries. Resolving Busan’s key issues and securing national funding for next year are therefore more important than ever.” He added, “I hope today’s discussions with National Assembly Member Han Dong-hoon will serve as a catalyst for Busan’s next leap forward.”
