“Starting with Changes Citizens Can Feel”… Busan Metropolitan City Seeks Answers in the Field

Busan Metropolitan City Mayor Chun Jae-soo will visit the area around Seongnam Elementary School in Dong-gu at 8:15 a.m. today, August 20, during the morning school commute to inspect traffic safety conditions and sources of inconvenience for citizens.

The site visit is intended to enable the city to personally examine issues raised by citizens and promptly develop solutions.

First, Mayor Chun will receive a briefing on school routes around Seongnam Elementary School and inspect key safety facilities and the pedestrian environment.

The city plans to inspect the management and condition of protective fences in the school zone, listen to feedback from people at the site, and review the installation of voice-guidance assistance devices at pedestrian crossings.

The mayor will also visit the pedestrian-environment improvement project site along the school route beneath Jaseong-ro, receive a briefing on the project’s progress, and call for thorough on-site safety management and swift implementation so that the project proceeds without disruption and inconvenience to citizens is resolved as quickly as possible.

In addition, Busan Metropolitan City plans to work with district and county governments to identify community-focused projects that can substantially address inconveniences citizens experience in their daily lives and provide a total of KRW 8 billion in special adjustment grants to support their rapid implementation.

In particular, the city has allocated KRW 1.2 billion in its third supplementary budget proposal to improve the visibility of lane markings on major arterial roads. In coordination with this initiative, district and county governments will identify road sections with heavy traffic and a high risk of reduced visibility or skidding during rainfall and upgrade them with high-visibility wet-weather lane markings. The improvements are expected to enhance visibility on rainy nights and reduce the risk of traffic accidents during the journey home.

The city also plans to quickly address sources of inconvenience by reflecting local conditions and citizens’ opinions, including repairing aging or malfunctioning in-ground pedestrian signals, replacing streetlights and improving illumination in dark alleys, and installing smart shelters at bus stops where extreme heat or cold causes significant discomfort for passengers.

Mayor Chun Jae-soo said, “We will continue visiting sites to identify issues that can bring meaningful changes to citizens’ daily lives.” He added, “For issues identified in the field, we will mobilize all available administrative resources and resolve them swiftly and decisively to ease the burdens citizens face.”
