Sejung, a Leading Long-Established Local Company, Donates KRW 300 Million to Support Socially Vulnerable Residents in Busan

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, will hold a donation ceremony with Sejung and the Busan Community Chest of Korea at 10:00 a.m. today, August 20, in the Protocol Room at Busan City Hall to mark Sejung’s contribution in support of socially vulnerable residents.

Mayor Chun Jae-soo, Sejung Chairman Park Soon-ho, Busan Community Chest of Korea Chairman Lee Soo-tae, and others are expected to attend the ceremony.

The donation totals KRW 300 million and will be distributed through the Busan Community Chest of Korea to support socially vulnerable residents in Busan.

The funds will support three projects: KRW 220 million for a clothing assistance program for vulnerable groups through social welfare facilities, KRW 40 million for a Habitat home improvement project to improve the living conditions of housing-vulnerable households, and KRW 40 million for the B-Work Station project, the nation’s first shared office initiative by a local government specifically designed for persons with disabilities.

In particular, the KRW 220 million clothing assistance program for vulnerable groups is one of Sejung’s signature social contribution initiatives, which the company has continued for many years.

The donated items will consist of seasonally appropriate clothing and will be distributed through social welfare facilities in Busan to vulnerable residents in need of clothing assistance, including low-income households, older adults living alone, persons with disabilities, children, and adolescents.

The program is expected not only to ease financial burdens but also to improve the quality of life of vulnerable residents and strengthen the community’s social safety net.

The Habitat home improvement project renovates aging homes occupied by housing-vulnerable residents to provide safer and more comfortable living environments.

Through this donation, Sejung will become the eighth corporate donor to participate in the Habitat Relay Donation Challenge, fulfilling its corporate social responsibility and helping expand a culture of giving in the community. To date, seven companies and organizations have participated, improving the residential environments of 28 households.

B-Work Station is a shared workspace for self-employed persons with disabilities and persons with disabilities who work from home. It will be the first such facility established by a local government in Korea.

The shared office will be equipped with computers, videoconferencing equipment, and other facilities to support work and networking for persons with disabilities, and it is planned to be available free of charge.

Using this donation as a foundation, Busan Metropolitan City plans to open the facility on a pilot basis at the end of December and actively promote greater participation by persons with disabilities in economic activities while fostering a sustainable employment ecosystem.

Sejung is a leading long-established local company representing Busan that has grown together with the local community. In 2011, it established the Sejung Sharing Foundation, the first social welfare foundation founded by a company in Korea’s fashion industry, and has since carried out a wide range of social contribution activities.

In particular, following donations totaling KRW 850 million for social contribution activities last year, the company donated another KRW 400 million in the first half of this year, consistently pursuing a management philosophy of sharing and mutual growth with the local community.

Sejung also continues to carry out a variety of social contribution initiatives, including assistance for neighbors in need, support for talent development, and sponsorship of culture and the arts, thereby fulfilling its corporate social responsibility.
