Traffic Restrictions for Oryun 1 and 2 Tunnels Due to Fire Safety Equipment Replacement Work

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, announced that traffic will be restricted on certain sections of the Oryun 1 and 2 Tunnels from tomorrow, August 20, through August 29 while fire safety equipment, specifically the radio rebroadcast system, is replaced.

The radio rebroadcast system is a key safety facility that promptly delivers emergency and traffic information to drivers in the event of a fire, traffic accident, or other emergency inside a tunnel. Through this project, the city plans to improve the reliability and stability of the system and enhance the safety of tunnel users.

To avoid traffic congestion during commuting hours and other peak periods, the restrictions will be in effect for six and a half hours, from 10:30 p.m. on each scheduled workday until 5:00 a.m. the following day. The final restrictions are scheduled to be lifted at 5:00 a.m. on August 29.

During the restriction period, two of the four lanes in each direction of the Oryun 1 and 2 Tunnels will be closed, while the remaining two lanes will remain open to traffic in order to minimize inconvenience to motorists.

Baek Myeong-gi, Director General of the Urban Planning Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, said, “As these traffic restrictions are unavoidable to ensure safety inside the tunnels and the reliable transmission of emergency broadcasts, we ask for the public’s understanding and cooperation.”
