Mayor Chun Jae-soo Appoints Silla University Professor Son Ji-hyun as Head of Busan Social Service Agency in First Public Institution Chief Appointment

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, announced that it will appoint Son Ji-hyun, a professor in the Department of Counseling Therapy and Welfare at Silla University, as head of the Busan Social Service Agency.

The appointment certificate presentation ceremony is scheduled to take place today, August 18, at 2:50 p.m. in the Protocol Room on the 7th floor of Busan City Hall. The appointment of the new head of the Busan Social Service Agency is the first appointment of a public institution chief since Mayor Chun Jae-soo took office.

Beginning today, August 18, Son Ji-hyun will serve a three-year term. She will be responsible for developing the Busan Social Service Agency, now in its fourth year since opening, into a specialized regional social service institution, with the goal of strengthening a sustainable social service system through initiatives such as establishing locally tailored care services and supporting related facilities.

The newly appointed head, Son Ji-hyun, has served as a professor for more than 10 years and has participated in a wide range of academic and policy research as well as community activities in the field of social welfare.

Since March 2015, she has continued teaching and conducting research at Silla University, building expertise in social welfare policy and administration through research on such areas as integrated community care, community social security councils, and public-private cooperation frameworks.

In addition, drawing on her proven ability to analyze local social service issues through advisory work for social welfare institutions and participation in broadcast discussions, as well as her extensive welfare network, she is expected to contribute to establishing the agency’s future direction and strengthening its capacity to carry out its initiatives.

Son Ji-hyun said, “I will strengthen cooperation with Busan Metropolitan City and welfare and medical institutions to establish an integrated social service delivery system that all citizens can experience in their daily lives. I will also work to continuously identify and develop Busan-specific social service models by incorporating welfare big data analysis and feedback from citizens and frontline professionals.”

Mayor Chun Jae-soo said, “She is the right person to improve the public value and quality of community care and welfare services by bringing together research expertise and voices from the field.” He is also expected to call on her to “do her utmost to establish a comprehensive care safety net and advance social services that citizens can trust.”
