Busan Metropolitan City Announces 2026 Master Craftsperson Selection Plan; Applications Accepted Through September 18

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, has announced the 2026 Busan Metropolitan City Master Craftsperson Selection Plan and will accept applications from today, August 18, through September 18. The program seeks to identify and honor outstanding skilled professionals who have contributed to the advancement of local industrial technology through exceptional expertise and craftsmanship accumulated over many years in industrial workplaces.

The Busan Metropolitan City Master Craftsperson program recognizes professionals who possess the highest level of technical expertise and specialization in local industries and who have made significant contributions to the advancement of skilled trades. It was established to enhance the pride of skilled professionals and promote a culture that values technical expertise.

This year marks the ninth selection, and the City plans to select up to 10 individuals from among 86 occupations in 38 fields.

Those selected as Busan Metropolitan City Master Craftspersons will receive a certificate and plaque of recognition, as well as a total technical incentive of KRW 10 million per person, paid over two years in annual installments of KRW 5 million.

Applicants must have at least 15 years of experience in an industrial workplace in the same field and occupation; have resided in Busan for at least three years as of the application date and currently work at a workplace located in the city; have made significant contributions to the advancement of skilled trades in the region or to improving the status of skilled professionals; and have no previous record of being selected as a Busan Metropolitan City Master Craftsperson or a Master Craftsman of Korea in the same field.

Those wishing to apply must obtain a recommendation from the head of the district or county with jurisdiction over their residence or workplace, the head of a company located in the Busan region, the head of a city-level industry association, or the head of another nonprofit corporation or organization related to skilled trades. Applications may be submitted in person or by mail to the Employment and Labor Division, 21st Floor, 1001 Jungang-daero, Yeonje-gu, Busan.
