Busan, a Green City of Parks and Gardens Filled with Happiness… Applications Open for the 14th Busan Metropolitan City Beautiful Landscape Award

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, is inviting applications for the 14th Busan Metropolitan City Beautiful Landscape Award to identify outstanding landscaping projects.

The competition was established to realize the vision of “Busan, a Green City of Parks and Gardens Filled with Happiness,” creating a healthier and more beautiful city, while improving the quality of landscape architecture, promoting exemplary practices throughout the entire process of design, construction, and management, and presenting a vision for the future of landscaping.

Eligible projects are public- or private-sector landscaping projects, including apartment complexes, located in Busan with a landscaped area of at least 500 square meters and completed within the past two years, from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2026.

Busan Metropolitan City plans to select a total of six projects after comprehensively considering their contribution to climate change response, including reductions in fine particulate matter and mitigation of the urban heat island effect, harmony with the surrounding environment, overall quality, integrity, and other factors. In the private-sector category, one Grand Prize, one Excellence Award, and one Merit Award will be selected. The same three awards will also be presented in the public-sector category.

Eligible applicants are the project owner, designer, or contractor of a landscaping project. Applicants must submit the application form, presentation panel, project description, and other required documents to the Green Forest City Division of Busan Metropolitan City, located on the 25th floor at 1001 Jungang-daero, Yeonje-gu. Submissions will be accepted from September 14 through September 30.

The final winners will be selected in October through a fair and rigorous evaluation process conducted by a judging panel composed of members of the Busan Metropolitan City Deliberation Committee for the Creation and Management of Urban Forests and Related Areas. Winners will receive certificates from the Mayor of Busan Metropolitan City, and commemorative plaques will be presented for the award-winning project sites.
