Busan Metropolitan City Recruits Participants for the Second-Half 2026 HAHA Edu Program

Busan Metropolitan City announced that it will recruit Busan residents aged 50 and older from today, August 10, through August 21 for the Catholic University of Pusan’s Second-Half 2026 HAHA Edu Program.

The courses will run from September 7 through December 11 at campus classrooms and university sports facilities on the Seminary Campus of the Catholic University of Pusan.

The Catholic University of Pusan will offer a total of 38 courses, an expanded lineup compared with the first half of the year, consisting of 18 sports courses and 20 educational courses.

The sports program includes pickleball, tennis, billiards, pocket billiards, table tennis, and ground golf, all popular among older adults. Beginner and intermediate classes will be offered so participants can choose courses suited to their skill levels. The program will also include trekking along mountain trails in autumn and “Meports” (medical + sports), a customized exercise program tailored to specific health conditions.

Pickleball is a racket sport combining elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis.

The educational program consists of hands-on courses that participants can enjoy together, including choir, line dance, Nanta, and taekwondo; digital courses such as practical smartphone use, artificial intelligence applications, and an AI video workshop; and self-development courses including barista certification, senior modeling, and home organization and storage.

Any Busan resident aged 50 or older may apply through the Catholic University of Pusan website at hhc.cup.ac.kr or by scanning the QR code on promotional materials. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Tuition is KRW 30,000 per course, except for trekking, which costs KRW 10,000. Basic livelihood security recipients are exempt from tuition, while persons with disabilities, near-poverty households, national merit recipients and their bereaved family members, and other eligible participants receive a 50% discount.

Meanwhile, to expand educational and welfare programs using underutilized university facilities, Busan Metropolitan City signed a memorandum of understanding with Kosin University in April. The City plans to offer 19 courses linked with university infrastructure, including Kosin University Gospel Hospital, and will separately recruit participants in September.

Hwang Soon-gil, Director General of the Social Welfare Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, said, “We hope this educational program will provide residents with a valuable opportunity to learn, exercise, and connect with their neighbors in their daily lives.”

He added, “With a balanced lineup of recreational sports and self-development courses in the second half of the year, we will actively support broader participation so that more residents can regain health and vitality.”
