Busan Museum of Art to Hold Overseas Exhibition Vision and Perspective with China's Today Art Museum

The Busan Museum of Art (hereinafter referred to as the "Museum") announced that it will present the overseas exhibition Vision and Perspective at Today Art Museum in Beijing, China, from August 23 through October 7.

The exhibition is the first Busan-based Emerging Artists Global Project jointly organized by the Busan Museum of Art and Today Art Museum. It has been planned to introduce the artistic practices of Busan-based emerging artists to audiences in China from a fresh perspective.

The Museum has identified East Asia as an important international platform for productive discussions on contemporary art. This exhibition will provide an opportunity to examine the shared contemporaneity of Busan and Beijing while exploring new possibilities for interpreting artworks within broader cultural and critical contexts.

Today Art Museum, the Museum's collaborative partner, is widely recognized for its experimental curatorial practices and ongoing commitment to international cooperation in contemporary art. Through this partnership, both institutions aim to advance international exchange and broaden critical discourse.

Vision and Perspective is one of the Museum's flagship exhibition programs, launched in 1999 to establish a sustainable creative foundation for local artists. Under the 2025 open-call program, the Museum has been providing eight selected artists with a multi-year development program spanning approximately two to three years, including domestic exhibitions, overseas exhibitions, and international networking opportunities.

The domestic exhibition was held at Seonggok Art Museum in Seoul in 2025, and this year's overseas exhibition at Today Art Museum, a leading nonprofit private art museum in China, will introduce the artistic practices of Busan-based artists to an international audience.

Featuring painting, installation, video, and other media, the exhibition explores the relationships among images, materiality, the human body, and the environment that shape contemporary society.

Eight artists born in Busan or actively working in the city—Kang Yi-kyung, Kim Mi-rae, Kim Jae-won, Kim Tae-sung, Park Ji-hye, Park Hyun-sung, Yoo Jang-woo, and Yoo Hana—participate in the exhibition. Through their individual artistic practices, they offer distinct interpretations of the compressed modernity experienced by East Asian cities.

Drawing on the shared contemporary experiences of Busan and Beijing, the exhibition presents a wide range of artistic approaches, including repetitive moving images, installations exploring structure and spatial gaps, and experimental works that expand the material possibilities of painting. Together, these works illuminate the diverse temporal experiences of East Asian modernity shaped by rapid urbanization and industrialization.

Building on this exhibition, the Museum plans to expand its international partnership with Today Art Museum by establishing a sustainable model for cooperation that includes joint research, academic exchanges, and collaboratively curated exhibitions.

The Museum also aims to provide Busan-based artists with platforms that connect them directly to the international art scene, creating ongoing opportunities for them to contribute to the development of contemporary East Asian art discourse.
