Busan Metropolitan City Steps Up Summer Water Safety Management with On-Site Inspection at Haeundae Beach

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, announced that officials will visit Haeundae Beach at 1:30 p.m. today, July 30, to inspect summer water safety conditions, encourage personnel, and reaffirm their commitment to preventing safety accidents.

The on-site visit has been arranged to inspect safety management conditions and various facilities and equipment, including intelligent CCTV systems, in preparation for water-related accidents that may occur at beaches during the summer, such as drowning, jellyfish stings, and rip currents, and to establish a rapid on-site response system.

Officials will also recognize the efforts of on-site personnel, including firefighters, private water rescue teams, police officers, and district officials, who are quietly doing their utmost to protect citizens and visitors. Together, they will reaffirm their commitment to preventing fatalities from summer water activities under the slogan, “Zero Water Accidents, Safety Heroes!”

In 2026, Haeundae Beach was the first beach in Busan to open, beginning operations on June 26. It will remain open for 82 days through September 15.

As of July 26, Busan’s beaches had received a cumulative total of 6.55 million visitors, including 2.72 million visitors to Haeundae Beach.

Mayor Chun Jae-soo is expected to say, “I sincerely thank everyone who remains on duty and devotes themselves to protecting the precious lives of our citizens even during the summer vacation season. Despite the many challenges you may face, I ask that you continue to fulfill your responsibilities with pride, knowing that you are the last line of defense protecting the safety and lives of our citizens and visitors.”
